How To Spot An Acne Myth

Acne is one of the most common problems worldwide. It doesn’t just affect teenagers but it is most common amongst people between- and 20 which are also when people are generally at their most vulnerable. For this reason there are plenty of home remedies for acne that claim to get rid of the problem – unfortunately they are often based on acne myths.

Probably the most common of all the acne myths is that it is caused by eating fatty foods and especially chocolate. There isn’t any real evidence that this is the case so you shouldn’t worry about eating chocolate for acne – although it is probably best to avoid eating large quantities for your general health.

Some people do find that their acne becomes worse when they eat a certain food so keep an eye out for patterns to see whether there is anything in your diet that is causing it.

It is also not true that you can get rid of acne by lying in the sun! A sun tan may stop acne from showing up so much on the skin but it certainly won’t get rid of them. People with tanned skin have less noticeable acne but they don’t have less of a problem with acne.

There is also the chance of getting other skin problems such as skin cancer if you spend too long lying on the sun so it is best not to do it. Definitely don’t do it as an acne cure because it won’t work and could make the problems worse.

Also, don’t think that washing your skin lots of times a day will solve your acne problems! Washing your face too much can cause irritation and dry skin which can actually make you have more spots rather than solving the problem. Wash your face once or twice a day at the most.
